Centrifugal Collapse is a Max for Live device for Ableton that invites you to hear things from a new perspective.

Once you load your samples, the machine splits them into 6 to 8 equal slices and picks them stochastically — reshuffling fragments in a continuously random order.

Just like your clothes tumbling inside a washing machine, it generates sonic magma and rhythms entirely dictated by chance.

The Centrifuge knob controls both pitch and direction: your samples respond to the speed and rotation of the drum, playing forward or in reverse depending on how hard you spin it.

The outcome is deeply shaped by the samples you choose to load.

5 stereo outputs — the first carries the full mix; the remaining four let you route each sample independently, so you can build a custom effects chain for every layer.

As you might expect, this is a noisy instrument, prone to clicks — but extremely powerful for generating interesting transitions during live performance.

A few tips:

Always record to a new audio track, so you never lose a good improvisation. If you want to use it in a production context, slow down.

Load your samples, sit back and listen.

Record everything.

Interesting moments will emerge — fragments you can lift and use even in more composed, refined work.

This is a stochastic world. Centrifugal Collapse rewards a listening and research mindset. Let go of control, and pay attention to what comes back.

Please note:

The instrument does not automatically reload samples when reopening the project.

When saving via the Ableton save icon, make sure that the .adv file you create is located in the same folder as Centrifugal Collapse and its accompanying .js file.

Tested on Ableton Live 12.1 (Windows) — fully functional.

Tested on Ableton Live 10.1 — minor sporadic bugs may occur, usually resolved by restarting Ableton.
